Case Study: Vert
Overview:
Vert was inspired by the towering skyline of Chicago and the natural beauty of the mountains on the west coast. The concept explores how urban form and nature can coexist, encouraging onlookers to look upward and experience the awe of elevation within the city environment.
Process:
Created during my time at Judson University’s Architecture and Design Camp, Vert took shape through late-night model work, detailed measurements, and multiple recalculations. The final design integrates the context of the surrounding city block and the minimal geometry of the nearby Apple Store, creating a sculptural experience that draws attention to light, height, and perspective.
Reflection:
Through this project, I learned that less can often achieve more. By grounding the form in stone and allowing it to rise freely, Vert became a simple yet striking reminder of how thoughtful design can blend the natural and built worlds while encouraging people to pause and look around.
